Hello! You will find important updates from me in this space.
Long-Term Facilities Planning, Community Meetings:
We have a series of Long-Term Facilities Planning Meetings where we intend to get feedback from groups of community members. The times and descriptions are below. These will be interactive sessions with a lot of useful information that will help guide our facilities into the future! Don’t miss out!
The meetings will include an update on the state of the current facility, a discussion of the future of the facility, the financial aspects to operating and improving the facility, and an interactive workshop with attendees that allows them to give input, set priorities, and discuss the financial impact of those priorities.
These initial meetings are intended to be focused on the interests of specific groups of stakeholders to help understand the concerns/needs and future expectations of our School District facilities. Please attend the meeting that best applies to you:
Landowners - Monday, June 5, 11:30 - 2:00 pm
Business Owners - Monday, June 5, 6:00 - 8:30 pm
Parents/Community Members - Tuesday, June 6, 6:00-8:30 pm
Representatives from All Groups Convene - Wednesday, June 7, 6:00-8:00 pm
Meetings will be held in the Cafeteria, at the North (High School) Entrance of the School.
We will reconvene representatives from all groups (Staff/Faculty, Landowners/Farmers, Business Owners, Parents/Community Members) on June 7th at 6:00 pm to discuss each group’s priorities and input. This input will be presented to the School Board at a meeting TBD in late June. This is an exciting planning process that we haven’t experienced in a very long time! Please don’t miss it, and spread the word!

Osakis Public School is a Pre-K through grade 12 facility located in West Central Minnesota. We have a four-section pre-school program for students that are either 3-4 years old along with an active ECFE program.
Our elementary school currently has three sections per grade for all grade levels. Everyday Math is the math textbook and Benchmark is the reading series. Our test scores continue to be competitive, and in most instances, higher than neighboring schools. We contribute our success in this area to our dedicated teachers, paraprofessionals, and parents. In addition to math, reading, science, health, spelling, and phy-ed, our elementary students receive instruction in art, library, computer, keyboarding, and music. We have also incorporated a diversity program to encourage our students to appreciate their culture as well as other' culture.
Our high school curriculum consists of math, English, science, FACS, industrial technology, agriculture, social studies, foreign language, business education, art, instrumental music, and vocal music. Osakis is proud to offer 61 credits of College in the High School courses. We also have online and lTV courses available which expand our course offerings. We have five computer labs, a Chromebook 1 to 1 program for grades 7-12 so our students stay current with technology.
Extracurricular opportunities include FCCLA, FFA, jazz band, honor choir, yearbook, knowledge bowl, science olympiad, speech, three-act, and one-act plays, archery, football, tennis, volleyball, basketball, wrestling, track, golf, softball, and baseball. Activities go beyond the school year to include many student opportunities for summer school and summer recreation programs.
We have recently completed a building project which included remodeling the FACS rooms, renovating an existing space for wrestling rooms and a fitness center and new spaces for an early childhood center, kitchen/cafeteria and student commons area, college career center, and a state of the art high school science department.
Our earliest records show that in the early days of its existence, OHS graduated as few as two students in the early 1900's. Today our school has over 800 students enrolled in grades K-12. The district prides itself on maintaining a low student-to-teacher ratio.
